Look One:

Lilly Pulitzer spring look

In this look, Mark builds around a pair of gorgeous Lilly Pulitzer ankle pant in a white trellis pattern. The Wiley tube top by Lilly Pulitzer is a very flattering cut, and paired with a knit wrap (also by Lilly), it’s comfortable for even the most modest fashionista. Mark has opted for a set of simple sandals by Savi to go with this look. Flats to go great with ankle pants and the tassel on these draws the eye down even more to elongate from the ankle. Silver sandals were selected to create a more contemporary look with the white- silver and white combos are very modern. Mark created this look to be casual and youthful, something breezy for school, work, or an afternoon out.

Look Two:

Spring lilly pulitzer with knit topMore Lilly gets featured in the second look, along with a gorgeous crochet top by Simply Noelle. This top is available at our sister store, the Boutique Collection. Find this coral color and many others. The open weave on the top allow for the great outfit underneath to show through while providing a light spring layer. Here, a silk Lilly Bailey top adds lots of pops of color behind the coral. The Bailey top is fairly long, which gives it lots of versatility, but tucking it in gives more length variation with the top. Another pair of Savi sandals, this time in a warm metallic wedge, echo the warmth of the coral and pinks. The Samoe bag has warm metallic tones along the sides too, plus fabulous adjustable handles. The geode necklace here works with the yellows in the Lilly top, and brings more shine to the ensemble.

Look Three:

Sarah Campbell coat with Lilly PulitzerThis look uses the same trellis pants, but creates a much more elegant silhouette. Now, different white tones don’t always create a great look, but with three different tones of white here in different textures, and an almost monochromatic palette, it adds depth. The top is a silk Belle top by Lilly Pulitzer, which offers a very light layer under the coat for pleasant spring days. The coat is by Sarah Campbell and the retro cut, pleated back, and beautiful covered buttons give it tons of character. There is even a subtle sheen from the metallic threads woven into the polka dot print. The 4-inch silver wedges echo the metallic threads, while a strand of pearls is the perfect complement to the polka dots. Mark suggests heels with an ankle strap like these to wear with shorter pants to make the legs look even longer.

Easy Holidays https://finleyhousecouture.com/547-2/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=547-2 Wed, 18 Nov 2015 05:05:30 +0000 http://www.finleyhousecouture.com/?p=547 Continued]]> Dressing for the holidays requires special prep sometimes, doesn’t it? Long, fun days of visiting with family and friends, dining, and shopping call for comfortable clothes. At the same time, you still want to look great for all those photos! Mark takes care of this high order with these looks, which are all built around a pair of gorgeous, soft and comfy palazzo pants by Sara Campbell. The velvet adds just enough glam, while the cut keeps things simple. Mark suggests grabbing your favorite pair of casual pants in a solid color to try some of these looks.

Look One:

IMG_4655
Casual, fun, but still elegant, this looks incorporates lots of texture. The Sara Campbell velvet palazzo pants pair beautifully with this Sara Campbell lace top. The rich blue lace is surrounded by black fringe, and the wrap by Dolce Cabo in has gradient coloring that fades from royal blue to black. The medallion necklace by Karinne Sultan was selected to fall below the lace cutout detail on the chest. More gold from Julie Voss earrings and bracelets really bring the look together. Pairing simple pants with a more dressy top, plus adding some texture and simple jewelry, is how to replicate this look. The darker color palette here is more formal. Silver jewelry would work well here, too, and would make the look more contemporary.

Look Two:

IMG_4657
Bring more refinement to a simple pair of pants with metallic pieces! Here, we are mixing golds. The same Sara Campbell pants are shown here with a jacquard jacket by Sara Campbell. The bow in the back of the jacket adds a lot of character, and echoes the belt. The bow belt is by Lilly Pulitzer, and gives nice definition to the waist. The animal print top works like a neutral here, not too dark, but with enough character to stand up to the gold jacket. Some larger-scale jewelry at the neckline balances the belt, while the longer piece brings extra sparkle between the jacket lapels. The beaded necklace is a new piece by Lilly Pulitzer, while the long necklace is a lovely vintage piece. To recreate this look, go for things that create structure on top to make a nice ensemble with the pants: a tailored jacket and a good belt. Choose a color theme (here, gold) to give cohesion to the outfit.

Look Three:

IMG_4662
This look is all about the coat. This mid-length silver Sara Campbell coat has great features. The large-scale yet understated print is offset by a bold daisy trim. The texture of the fabric brings richness to the look without much effort. The black pants are balanced by a little black at the neck (here, a scarf, but you could try a top with a high neckline). An Alexis Bittar necklace in a gunmetal finish brings a little more shine to the look. If you have a favorite piece like this coat, show it off by going minimal with the other elements of your look.

New Fall Looks! https://finleyhousecouture.com/new-fall-looks/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=new-fall-looks Tue, 22 Sep 2015 11:21:27 +0000 http://www.finleyhousecouture.com/?p=516 Continued]]>
IMG_3833

It’s almost fall, so it’s time to break out the deep colors and luxurious textures to welcome the season! We have lots of new pieces in the shop, just waiting for a day with a nip in the air. Check out these autumn looks that Mark has created with some of the new items in the store. Today, it’s all about texture! A gorgeous Sara Campbell dress features in all these looks, with a great animal print to anchor the three textural pieces. The knit dress is slightly fitted with details that flatter nearly any figure, and has a fun leather zipper, so it stands alone well. Add layers and texture to elevate the look and give more versatility to the piece.

Look One:

IMG_3838A long fuzzy vest from Boutique Collection adds a splash of fun to the dress, while bringing just a little bit of warmth. It’s so soft! Mark has layered long necklaces in the long space created by the vest, which is a good bet any time you have an open space that needs to be broken up. The pieces here are a vintage charm necklace and a Jay Strongwater necklace. A gold bracelet, also by Jay Strongwater, completes the look. Gold jewelry works well with this color palette, keeping everything soft and warm.
Mark suggests a fun ankle boot with this look, maybe something with a fringe to echo the looseness and movement of the long vest.

IMG_3840 IMG_3842

Look Two:
IMG_3845This second look with the Sara Campbell knit dress is a bit more elegant with the addition of more structure. A gorgeous nubby wrap sweater by Simply Noelle is still warm, soft, and fuzzy, but the contrasting borders along the sleeves and neck bring a more defined shape. This wrap, by the way, can be worn longer like this, or be flipped to fit more like a shrug with a wider neckline. Lots of fun! A Lorren Bell cotton-ball-pearl necklace lightens up the space created by the long neckline of the wrap, and a wrap belt by Geraldina helps define the waist. The belt features a naturally-fallen hand carved tusk with foil wrapped agate, and is completely unique. The detail in the carving is just spectacular. It can also be worn as a necklace, and looks great with lots of fall and winter looks. A gold bracelet by John Wind completes this ensemble. The little charms reflect the movement of the pendant on the necklace.

Try a boot with a look like this, too. Mark suggests a boot that rises to mid-calf, hinting that the height of your boots can be relevant to the formality of a look: lower boots for more casual and higher boots for something dressy.

IMG_3846 IMG_3844

Look Three:
IMG_3848We LOVE this Sara Campbell pistachio coat. The subtle color is beautiful next to the warm tones of the animal print, and the structure of the piece really elevates the overall tone of the dress in terms of formality. A Mei necklace of natural stones, turquoise, and pearls brings more color, taking a cue from the pale green of the coat. The rich tones in the necklace lend themselves to nearly any color accessory. Try a handbag with beautiful grays and blues, or a bold yellow to pick up even more tones from this stunning piece.
When recreating a look like this one, take cues from the juxtaposition of the random nature of the animal print alongside the monochromatic and structured coat. Each complements the other because of the opposite nature of the pieces- the coat brings sophistication to the dress while the dress makes the coat more playful. The riotous necklace works great here because the solid coat helps temper the print.

Mark feels that a knee-high boot would work well with a look like this one. The coat comes to just above the hemline of the dress, leaving a peek of layers above the top of the boot.

Transition 1 2 3 https://finleyhousecouture.com/transition-1-2-3/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=transition-1-2-3 Fri, 14 Aug 2015 04:22:02 +0000 http://www.finleyhousecouture.com/?p=479 Continued]]> As the last days of summer turn up the heat, minds turn to the cool breezes of fall. And the seasonal looks, of course. It will be here soon! Mark offers a set of looks built around a single piece that can transition from summer to fall. This cream-colored faux fur vest by 2Chic is available at the Boutique Collection. The light color plays well with a variety of prints and looks. And you won’t believe how soft it is! Stop by and try one on, pairing it with some of the concepts Mark features below.

Look One:
IMG_3614We start with a look that has a definite summer vibe. The bright shirt and ankle pants by Lilly Pulitzer pop with vibrancy under the vest. These pants are in the Toucan Play print, but any bright pattern would achieve a similar look. Paired with some striking accessories, the ensemble comes together. The tortoise shell inspired necklaces and cuff are by Lorren Bell. Tortoise shell is like pearl- it’s good for all seasons and looks great with almost anything! A Spartina handbag in a cream colored leather completes this look. As for shoes, try a small heel or wedge, or even somesandals with wrap laces since the cuff of the pants show off the ankles.
Note that Mark has placed a longer necklace with this look- you will want to proportion necklaces to your vests. And you will also want to proportion your vests with your body. Mark suggests that long-waisted folks should opt for longer vests like this one, while short-waisted people look great in shorter vests. Don’t know which one you are? Use this technique for a basic evaluation: stand and bend your arms at the elbows, holding your elbows against your waist. If your hips are below your elbows, you are long-waisted. If your hips are at or above your elbows, you are short-waisted.

IMG_3618 IMG_3616

Look Two:
IMG_3620The second look keeps some lightness to it, making it a great outfit for the transition between summer and fall. Mark is using navy like a neutral here, and brings in color with jewelry and accessories. The tunic and slacks are from Elizabeth Mckay. The polished pieces lend a more tailored look to the ensemble. More statement necklaces, again: long ones with this vest, offer a pop of color. These carved cinnabar necklaces by Lorren Bell are beautiful here, and give even more texture against the softness of the vest. The patent leather and red bag by Spartina and bangles by Bourbon and Bowties work well with the look. You may also notice the simple lines that are maintained in this ensemble: narrow bands on the tunic and handbag, and open circles on the accessories. Little details like that help tie things together without worrying about matching things perfectly by color or pattern. Try a red or patent leather shoe with this one.

IMG_3623 IMG_3622

Look Three:
IMG_3624This final look with the vest uses more neutral colors, creating an ensemble that is decidedly more autumn. This great ruffled tunic is by Comfy. The pants are, too, but feel free to break out the leggings and boots here- we know you want to! And they would work great with this top. Mark pairs another long necklace with the vest; the horn pendant is by Thad Cline, while the pearl pendant piece is another beautiful Lorren Bell piece. They are actually close to the same length, but Mark wanted a layered look with them, and he has a simple tip for accomplishing it. Grab a small safety pin and secure it in the links of the chain to create the length you want, and just let the rest of the length hang down your back. Another Spartina handbag looks great alongside- this time a houndstooth clutch. More Bourbon and Bowties bangles in warm fall colors gow well with the leather on the clutch bag and offer a little something different.

IMG_3626 IMG_3625
By the way, this Comfy tunic is a really fun piece! The neckline features a set of ribbons in the back that you can pull to increase the ruffles and change the look of the tunic a bit.

Vintage Chic https://finleyhousecouture.com/vintage-chic/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=vintage-chic Wed, 29 Jul 2015 15:07:35 +0000 http://www.finleyhousecouture.com/?p=461 Continued]]> IMG_3072

This Sara Campbell dress has all the right details for a vintage look! The cut and flair are perfect for some accessorizing with your favorite pearls or designer accents. The print is bold while still reminiscent of old-fashioned gingham. The colors offer lots of options, too, and the sheen in the silk (which can’t really be seen in the photos) is so luxurious. Plus, this a-line cut and generous collar is flattering on almost every body. Check out the little details in the looks Mark has assembled below.

Look One:

IMG_3070Mark starts out with a bold look that really amps up the blue tones. This Mary Frances handbag just sparkles next to the print, and makes one notice the turquoise hues in the fabric. The sleek, vintage gold and mother-of-pearl necklace with the high collar give a real mod look a la Judy Jetson, don’t you think? The little black belt, which comes with the dress, would perfectly tie in a pair of low-heeled black shoes. Try a ballet slipper with a little bow to really match the feel of the belt. IMG_3071 IMG_3074

Look Two:

IMG_3075Here, Mark works in some fantastic vintage pieces from some of the biggest design houses: Versace, Gucci, and Kenneth J Lang. Removing the belt allows the dress to flow uninterrupted and give more attention to the layered accessories. Less is more here- try a classic peep-toe slingback shoe in a tone that works with any of the print’s colors, and perhaps some gold studs for your ears.

IMG_3076 IMG_3077

Look Three:

IMG_3079This look is layered like the one above, but has less of a couture feel and flirts more with the colors in the print. The pink Lilly Pulitzer belt gives just enough definition to the to waist, and the narrow profile doesn’t fight the bold pattern. A goldette amethyst necklace brings sparkle, while the freshwater pearl strands and vintage pearl pendant necklace echo the buttons. The gemstone earrings go perfectly with the necklace, and the delicate chandelier style will not be heavy next to the high collar. A print this bold and a cut this classic means you can accessorize almost any way you like- just pick a theme!

Lilly and B https://finleyhousecouture.com/lilly-and-b/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lilly-and-b Thu, 18 Jun 2015 00:01:44 +0000 http://www.finleyhousecouture.com/?p=441 Continued]]> Looks by Mark is back! We took a little break while the shop shifted from spring to summer inventory. We have some great new items, prints, and colors, so come see us and check them out!
For today’s looks, Mark plays with color combinations with some prints that provide lots of options. Two of the most colorful lines in the shop are Lilly Pulitzer and the B Collection. In particular, the B Collection Cardigans offer mix and match opportunities with the pretty ribbon detail along the neckline and button holes.

IMG_2973Look One:

This first look showcases pieces that were made to go together. B Collection’s shift dress in the newest print, Big Top Prep, is shown here with the cardigan of the same name. With fun elephants, monkeys, alligators, and more, this print is whimsical and colorful, while still managing to be fairly understated. Paired with the cardigan, the look is decidedly polished.
Mark has also demonstrated a fun technique for reinventing your accessories: layer them! Here, a vintage dragon and jade necklace is paired with a fun elephant charm necklace by Molly Beads. Since the necklaces are about the same length, they appear as one very dynamic piece. Don’t be afraid to layer necklaces the same way you stack bracelets, and make your own statement piece. And when it comes to accessories, a print like this one offers so many possibilities. You could go with natural or bright colors, chunky or delicate pieces. Even the dragon necklace works perfectly here, while still being a bit unexpected.
As for footwear, Mark suggests any sandal or cork wedge. Leather sandals by Lilly Pulitzer work great with this ensemble, but any colored sandal would be perfect. Just pick a color from the print. The dress stands alone very well, too!

IMG_2980 IMG_2975 IMG_2977

IMG_2982Look Two:

For the second look, Mark pairs Lilly Pulitzer with more B Collection. We just love the giraffes, flamingos, and pink (!) elephants. This outfit is an example of color balancing with bright prints. This is a B Collection skirt in the Sunshine Safari print, which features mostly coral and green tones. You could select either of those colors if you wanted to maintain the dominance of either, but Mark has chosen to highlight the minimal gold tones in the Sunshine Safari print by pairing the skirt with a bright yellow top. The shirt is the Shay Tank by Lilly Pulitzer, and features a pretty ruffled neckline. Mark has opted to keep the Big Top Prep Cardigan by B Collection, as the colors in the striped ribbon coordinates with this look just as well.
This time, Mark has selected accessories with natural materials and tones. The naturally-fallen horn pendant and crystal & gold leaf charm work perfectly with the wild theme of the print, despite not being as colorful. Again, two necklaces are used here, working well together with similar shapes and tones.
As before, the look works great without the cardigan. In this case, removing the cardigan warms the look quite a bit, as the white works make the look a bit more neutral.

 IMG_2984 IMG_2985

IMG_2991Look Three:

Today’s final look features a bold print by Lilly Pulitzer. For this ensemble, the white cardigan and cool tank help balance the bright colors in the Lilly skort in the Scuba to Cuba print. Using the same technique as the previous look, Mark has selected a secondary color in the the main print, blue, to provide inspiration for the top. This turquoise tank by Lilly Pulitzer offers a perfect color enhancement, making the blue in the skort stand out even more. The blue stripes in the B Collection cardigan are enhanced further as well. The bee medallion by Susan Shaw echoes the bees on the B Collection buttons, and the gold tones go all the way down to the little zipper pull details on the Lilly skort. The simplicity of the necklace keeps the look casual.
One thing to note here is the v-neck on the tank- Mark points out that the back of the tank has a scoop neck, and this is common for v-neck tees. If your tank has a v-neckline that is a little too low for the occasion, or that you’d just like to mix up, turn the shirt around! Simply remove any tags (carefully!) from the back of the shirt, and use it like a reversible top for two different looks.
As mentioned above, we’re going for a more casual look here, so Mark suggests pairing this outfit with some fun flip flop sandals, like those by Lilly Pulitzer, also in the Scuba to Cuba print.

Wedding Weekend https://finleyhousecouture.com/wedding-weekend/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=wedding-weekend Thu, 23 Apr 2015 04:57:11 +0000 http://www.finleyhousecouture.com/?p=412 Continued]]> It’s wedding-planning season! In honor of all the brides out there, and to offer some tips for the big weekend, Mark has assembled some classy looks. A bride has so much to focus on during the wedding weekend, and her wardrobe shouldn’t have to be among them. But at the same time, she’ll want to dress to impress as she meets soon-to-be family and friends! From brunches to family introductions, these elegant yet easy looks would make a beautiful impression. As most brides opt for family or heirloom jewelry for occasions such as these, the jewelry is the same for each look this week: lots of pearls. And what’s more classic for weddings than pearls, lace, organza, and flowers? Each of these dresses was selected to evoke textures and concepts of the Big Day with updated flair. Featuring simple shapes with understated details, these dresses create flattering lines and just get more interesting on closer inspection.

All dresses feature feminine spring colors, and these all happen to be from Sarah Campbell. The jewelry Mark has selected is a set of triple-strand pearls by CP and a pair of Tonobi baroque pearl bracelets with rhinestone spacers. Let’s take a look!

Look One:
20150413_133859This stunning pink dress features so many great details, but somehow manages to feel simple and understated. Embroidered organza at hem and sleeves add an airy touch. The dropped waist and deeply pleated skirt are flattering on many body types, and is a cut that works for any age. So much texture- it really gives the piece weight and a feeling of richness. The fabric is a daisy jacquard, and is fully-lined.

In regards to lining, Mark notes that choosing undergarments is very important. Care must be taken to select undergarments that will work with the dress and not against it. We aren’t just talking about bra-straps here! For this dress with a slick lining, choose undergarments made of fabric that is equally so- like satin or a synthetic. This will ensure that they slide against each other instead of creating friction or cling. For special occasions, always try on a dress with the undergarments you intend to wear to give everything a full test-run.

20150413_133918

Look Two:
20150413_134838

While chevron prints tend to feel contemporary, the treatment of such a pattern on this dress doesn’t feel too modern. The lace-like fabric features fine metallic threads and a very delicate color. The peach and gold tones work beautifully with gold and pearl accessories, and enhances the natural warm tones in them, as well as most skin tones. The scoop neck and simple sheath-like cut keep the dress from feeling too fussy despite the fabulously frilly sleeve cuffs. This dress is a perfect example of classic meeting modern, a look that a bride can wear with ease and no anxiety! A similar effect might be achieved with broad stripes on a dress with a more vintage cut, or a newer silhouette that features a simpler or more feminine print.

20150413_135002

Look Three:
20150413_135609

This gorgeous butter yellow just screams spring, doesn’t it? And this fabric is best appreciated in person- delicate frills and petals make up a rosette organza texture overlaid on a geometric background that is like three-dimensional gingham. It’s reminiscent of a basket of flowers. The cap sleeves are flattering on nearly every body and give the dress a great shape. Again- perfect with pearls! This is the kind of dress that a bride can select for it’s uniqueness, without wondering if she looks like she’s trying too hard to impress. This dress is just effortlessly pretty.

As for shoes, Mark suggests anything in jacquard for all of the dresses. Having them dyed to match would be even better. Heels are a must! For occasions like parent meetings and bridesmaid luncheons, heels give a bit more formality and extra elegance.

Sleek Looks For Less https://finleyhousecouture.com/sleek-looks-for-less/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=sleek-looks-for-less Fri, 10 Apr 2015 05:35:00 +0000 http://www.finleyhousecouture.com/?p=391 Continued]]> IMG_1999The little black dress is a classic item, and it’s a perfect foundation for discussing some creative and low-cost accessorizing. Finley House Couture has a wide variety of price ranges, and great deals can be found here and at our sister store, The Boutique Collection. All the items in this post can be found at either store, but these ideas can be applied for nearly any budget, and with lots of flexibility in application. So this time, we’ll focus more on concepts than specific designers or pieces. To recreate these looks, similar items can probably be found in your closet already. Thrift stores, estate and rummage sales, and borrowing from friends are always good resources, too!
This dress, by the way, is available at the Boutique Collection for under $40. Mark notes the versatility of the dress, and says that you can wear either flats or heels, pair the dress with shrugs, blazers or jackets, and mix up materials like suede and metallics. See all the ways Mark jazzes up this piece below.

Look One:

IMG_2002IMG_2001While the cut of this dress is fairly basic, the fabric gives an added level of interest. It’s difficult to tell in photos, but this dress has great texture. The geometric surface makes it appear as though silver threads are woven in. This makes it fun to experiment with metallics and other textures. When building an ensemble around a base item, take note of things like weave, sheen, direction of pattern and more. It’s the little details that really bring things together.

Because of the metallic overtone of the dress, Mark has selected silver accessories here. He has also opted for round shapes in the accessories. Note how the hoop earrings, bangle bracelets, and medallions on the shoes and necklace all echo each other. You can mix and match lots of types of accessories by keeping a theme in mind. These bangles are acrylic, which can be very affordable. You can also try some simple silver bangles. The shoes are a simple sandal with an ankle strap. Mark has chosen a flat shoe here because the dress is being worn without jacket. Flats look great with the dress as is, or with a blazer or shrug, which have a shorter hemline that skims the waist. With this look, a basic clutch would coordinate well, or you could even get creative and freshen up a clutch with old jewelry- single earrings, beads from broken necklaces, craft supplies, thrift store finds, etc. Have fun with it! Check out these tutorials for inspiration: DIY Jimmy Choo-inspired clutch and Recycled Pearl and Rhinestone clutch.

IMG_2005 IMG_2006

Look Two:

IMG_2008Here, Mark has added a long jacket and some bold jewelry. Remember the suggestion about flats with waist-skimming hemlines? For the longer jacket, Mark suggests a heel to lengthen the leg with the longer look. It’s a good rule of thumb. You can keep the shoe simple here, but don’t be afraid to go with a metallic or wedge.
Mark plays with the texture of the dress again, this time with the jacket. Both the interior texture of the jacket and the exterior pattern mimic the geometric look of the dress weave. The structure of the jacket lends itself to a more big-city look, so glass and silver bracelets work great here- more shine and flash. The statement necklace is bold, and fills the space created by the dress neckline and the high collar. Go big when the space is this defined! You don’t need earrings with the high, tailored collar and large necklace doing so much here. If you must do earrings, go with a simple silver stud. Keeping the color palette limited keeps the look sleek- also another good rule of thumb.

IMG_2009 IMG_2011

Look Three:

IMG_2012IMG_2019This look features some sass and elegance by using a simple trick. Grab a coordinating sash or thin scarf, and tie a bow, leaving a loop to slide over your head. Add it to a dress or top to dress up the front and back at the same time. You can do this with almost any material; raid your closet to repurpose something or make a sash from some pretty fabric. Add a brooch or single earring to the center to mimic a necklace and add some shine. Mark brings back acrylic bracelets for one wrist, and adds something flashy for the other wrist. You can go high-end or budget on accessories like these- rhinestones or crystals look great! Keep the flash going with jewel tones or rhinestones on the shoe. Because this look is a little more formal with the bow and shine, pair with heels.

Crisp, Clean & Breezy https://finleyhousecouture.com/crisp-clean-breezy/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=crisp-clean-breezy Sat, 28 Mar 2015 02:58:16 +0000 http://www.finleyhousecouture.com/?p=378 Continued]]> This week’s looks work with a pair of crisp white pants from Taylor Brooks. Add some soft colors and great prints, and the ensemble takes on a breezy and effortless look. Check these out, and remember to click on any image to view it larger!

Look One:

Lilly Pulitzer

The Taylor Brooks pants have a natural waist fit, making them very comfortable and flattering. The pants are available in many sizes and colors at our sister store, the Boutique Collection. Here, Mark has added the Karrie shirt in Finders Keepers by Lilly Pulitzer. The Karrie shirt is a basic tee-shirt style. Freshwater pearls in a triple strand by CP go great with the top. In fact, pearls and a t-shirt are always a good idea according to Mark- you can’t go wrong! Paired with a bag by Lilly Pulitzer in the same Finders Keepers print, this casual look comes together quickly and beautifully.

IMG_1958

Look Two:

IMG_1959

Keeping the same slacks by Taylor Brooks, Mark dresses the look up just a bit with more color and a silk shirt. The Elsa top in the First Impressions print by Lilly Pulitzer looks great here. The feminine touches really dress up the outfit with minimal effort. The necklace by CP features a bright coral accent on a gold chain. That pop of color coordinates perfectly with a coral bag by JPK, an Original Bucket Bag. A trio of bangle bracelets by Lilly Pulitzer bring all the colors together. The elastic cuffs on the Elsa top mean you can pull the sleeves up to 3/4 length to show off the pretty bracelets. For this kind of outfit, Mark suggests a low heel if you’d like to dress it up a bit more. To keep it a bit more casual, try a Jack Rogers sandal or a suede monogram flat.

Look Three:

Just a couple of accessory exchanges really can create a whole new outfit! The Elsa top by Lilly stays with the white slacks by Taylor Brooks, and a powder silk jacket by Grace Chung gives the look an extra touch of class. Mark has switched out the coral necklace for more freshwater pearls: a three-strand set and a knotted 60-inch strand, all by CP. A large white handbag completes the look.

Green Dream https://finleyhousecouture.com/green-dream/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=green-dream Fri, 13 Mar 2015 03:29:05 +0000 http://www.finleyhousecouture.com/?p=368 Continued]]> Today, Mark constructed several looks with a skirt that may seem like a difficult piece at first glance. He demonstrates here that navy goes beautifully with any shade of blue, and shades of green work harmoniously together! Click on any image for a closer look.

Look 1:
IMG_1800 Here, the Elizabeth McKay Cameron Skirt pairs perfectly with the Elizabeth McKay Brooker Shirt in a Tulip print. The exact shades of navy don’t have to match- the look still pulls together. The gold buttons on the shirt make this piece a perfect match with a gold necklace, like this hammered link collar by Lorren Bell. Plus, the skirt has pockets! With all these looks, Mark suggests a metallic shoe, or any one of the colortone shoes by Jack Rogers.

Look 2:

IMG_1803 Keeping the Elizabeth McKay skirt, the look is lightened with this silk shirt by Elizabeth McKay in the butterfly print. This one has pretty, feminine cap sleeves, but the shirt is also available with no sleeves and long sleeves. The neckline has a lovely ruffle and french-cuff style buttons. Note that the green and blue in this shirt isn’t an exact match with those in the skirt, but as an ensemble, the pieces look as if they were made to go together!

Look 3:

IMG_1807 For the last look with the Elizabeth McKay Cameron skirt, Mark has paired it with a polka dot shirt by Skirtin’ Around. The long sleeves are tucked into this simple and pretty Moore Cardigan by Lilly Pulitzer. The Lorren Bell gold necklace is still a perfect accessory, matching the gold buttons along the shirt. The classic collar looks great peeking above the top of the sweater. In this look, the blue field on the shirt is much lighter than the aqua in the skirt, but it works. Remember- blues and greens always look great with other blues and greens, so have fun with them!
